1970s Scooters
Ever since the 1970s, scooters have been sold around the world to high school and college students, young adults, professional commuters, and executives.
In the 1980s, scooters and bikes declined in popularity as lots of cheap small cars became available. But in the late-1990s, many young adults rediscovered the scooter. Twenty years ago, bigger and faster motorcycles like Harley Davidsons or Ducatis became popular. Scooters have maintained a steady demand ever since, as gas prices have risen and they can be used for anything unless it is pouring rain. People say that once you start riding a scooter, you get hooked.

If you are just getting started with your first scooter, congratulations! Take a minute to read some basic tips on safe riding.
1. ALWAYS wear protective gear. You want a helmet, eye protection (goggles or face shield), tough clothing, visible clothing, and footwear with good grip. Rain gear is also a plus, as are elbow pads and knee pads. When it comes to your life and your body, you can never be too safe.
2. Understand your responsibilities. Be properly licensed and insured before you ever go out on the road. We have heard too many horror stories to ignore this advice.
3. Take a basic riding class and know your scooter basic skills. Know everything about your scooter by reading the manual. You should know where all the controls are by heart. Only after doing this should you take it out to practice braking, accelerating, turning, and operating it.
4. After practicing a little in your neighborhood or empty parking lot, THEN you can take the scooter into live traffic. Again, there is no point rushing into this as your life and health is on the line. The next step is to drive on busy streets, on the freeway, and eventually in heavy traffic, in rainy weather, and at night time. Take it step by step, and you will get used to it all eventually.
5. Finally, you can start carrying other passengers. This is a completely different animal, so again, practice before you start driving like you do on your own. Good luck and be safe!
