1990s Scooters
With the recent increase in gas costs, many people have changed their driving habits to include: driving slower, reducing air conditioner use, coasting to red lights, lightening their trunk load, and not stopping for long periods at stop signs.
Anyone who commutes that doesn't have to get on the freeway can also benefit from driving a scooter. In addition to students and young adults, people over 50 and 60 are getting into the scooter market and according to MSNBC, the average age of scooter operators is 46 years old.
Just like all motorized modes of transport, mopeds and scooters need regular maintenance. Aside from oil changes, you need to tune up and repair your vehicle sometimes. If you do this on a regular basis, you can expect solid and dependable performance from your used scooter.
Before you go out for a ride, it is a good idea to check the lights, turn signals, brakes, and tires. Additionally, make sure you have at least a quarter tank of gas, and a clean windshield as well.
As far as maintenance, you probably want to have a scooter cover, in case you can't store it indoors. The more protected it is from rain and dust, the better it will perform. Try to wash it and keep it dry as often as you can. This will prevent rust and other wear and tear. Oil should be changed after the first 400 miles if it is brand new. After that, change the oil at least every thousand miles. 5W-30 is a good choice of motorcycle oil for your scooter. Last but not least, always have a professional mechanic at your disposal. This will come in so handy in case of emergencies and complicated problems.
